Couples Experiential Observation
The Couples Experiential™ is a 2-day workshop, designed to give therapists a unique opportunity to observe Terry Real, creator of Relational Life Therapy (RLT), and who Diane Sawyer called, “One of America’s foremost couple’s therapists.” Working live with six different couples, and then having up to two hours per day to discuss, debrief, and deconstruct the sessions. The workshop includes twelve participants (6 couples) and local medical professionals to come and observer.
Terry works intensively with each couple in turn – in front of the group and observers – and then group members are invited to give feedback to the couple. Using techniques drawn from the approach he created, Relational Life Therapy, each couple is led, with extraordinary quickness and precision, to its Next Step ™ toward unlocking its fullest potential. As couples open their hearts, the power of the group grows. Known for his straight talking, no-nonsense style, Terry disarms with humor, warmth, and compassion. Some couples go from good to great, some pull back from imminent divorce, changing patterns that have plagued them for years. Participants have described the work as riveting, deeply moving, funny, sensible, and humane. Many couples and individuals visibly, substantially, and permanently transform.
For part of lunch break and up to an hour at the end of the day, Terry discusses the sessions in detail with the therapists only – revealing the consistent RLT methods behind the art. It’s like an immersion course with a master teacher. Both advanced students and those brand new to RLT have described it as the best teaching experience they’ve encountered. There’s simply nothing that rivals the richness of intensive, live work, which is then carefully annotated and discussed. If you’ve trained with us, take your RLT practice to a whole new level. And if you are new to RLT, come learn ‘up close and personal’ about the quick, dramatic, profound change made possible by this radical new approach.
Please note, during Terry’s work with the couples, therapist observers are not permitted to participate or ask questions. Observers are seen and not heard. Lunchtime and the extra time at the end of each day is when Q&A is offered with Terry. Most workshops will have 40-50 Observers, some may have as many as 85.
This 2-day Advanced Level 2 Training is for the experienced clinician who understands the basic theoretical framework and principals of the Relational Life Model. The objective is for participants to gain full competency in the clinical practice of Relational Life Therapy, and is designed to provide more in-depth coverage of the therapeutic skills needed.

RLT Level 3 Training
This is an advanced training for RLT clinicians who have completed our Level 1 and Level 2 trainings. In this 2-day course, Terry will guide participants through a combination of lecture, video, presentation, discussion, role plays, large group work, and small group exercises, in order to ground theory in practice.
Participants will learn:
- Ways to increase your skill in working with family of origin issues
- Integrating Attachment Theory into RLT
- To identify and work on your “edges” as an RLT therapist.
HOURS: 10am to 5pm each day
DATES: No Level 3 is scheduled at this time. Dates will be added as soon as we have a confirmed time.
Observation: Couples Experiential™
Local therapists are invited to come and sit in the room’s perimeter for the sole purpose of enhancing your training by witnessing Terry work with couples first hand. You'll see him work with a variety of issues, personalities, and conflict and learn how he brings the RLT model into his work. Observing therapists do not participate nor interfere in any way, simply listen and learn. This is the only workshop where we offer Observation.
